pitchbender is an electronic music project from the heart of Vienna. The music moves between organic sounds and synthetic textures – inspired by nature, animal motifs and analog synthesizers.
The Beginnings: Amiga & Salzburg Rave Nights
The roots of pitchbender trace back to Salzburg in the 1990s. The first phase of the project was fueled by the raw energy of the early electronic music movement: pounding beats and hard rave sounds, entirely composed on a Commodore Amiga. Bypassing modern studio luxuries, these insanely fast rhythms were tested instantly on the dancefloors of local discotheques and underground clubs. It was an uncompromising, high-pressure sound with a velocity and intensity that is hard to even imagine in today's club scene.
The Music: Organic Synergy & Animal Motifs
Emerging from this school of hard beats, pitchbender’s sound evolved over the years into a matured electronic identity. Today, the music thrives on subtle contrasts and fluid transitions. A core element is the manipulation of the human voice: vocals are not just carriers of lyrics, but morph seamlessly into instrumental textures. Profoundly inspired by the wild, animal motifs and raw field recordings of nature flow directly into the tracks. These organic fragments are woven together with analog synthesizer frequencies, creating dense, hypnotic soundscapes.

The studio in Vienna serves as a laboratory where these diverse worlds collide. Here, the raw rave experiences of the past meet modern digital precision. Sounds collected from the wilderness and animal textures are isolated, distorted, and fed into synthesizer patches. Simultaneously, the studio acts as the bridge to Alexander’s photographic work: sonic textures and visual aesthetics influence one another, ensuring that cover artworks and visual concepts emerge directly from the DNA of the tracks. Each piece undergoes a metamorphosis where erratic natural noises, analog circuitry, and visual fragments interact until they merge into a unified, multimedia experience.

Today, pitchbender has broken free from local boundaries—the music is listened to worldwide. Far from the mainstream, a growing and dedicated base of niche fans has emerged.
